The meeting will take place 11–15 September 2017 in Capo Granitola, Sicily.

WKSMYREF5 is a workshop to review the ICES advisory framework for short lived species, including detailed exploration of the use of escapement strategies and forecast methods.  Giving advice on short lived species is a formidable challenge, but a particularly interesting one because our ability to predict is limited in a different way than for longer lived species. The current ICES MSY escapement strategy is strongly dependant on a good understanding of the uncertainties involved, and this workshop explores whether it is still fit for purpose, or whether there are alternative frameworks that should be considered. ICES has already received requests regarding the evaluation of proposed management strategies for short-lived species where such evaluations will partly be based on results from this workshop.
