The work plan for WKIrish is a multi-year process
focussing on improving single-species stock assessments (principally cod,
haddock, whiting, plaice, herring), incorporating a mixed fisheries model, and
developing the integration of ecosystem aspects and working towards an
integrated assessment and advice.
A number of workshops will address:
WKIrish1 (September 2015): Information sharing and scoping
WKIrish2 (September 2016): Data evaluation workshop
WKIrish3 (early 2017): Stock assessment benchmark
WKIrish4 (late 2017): Workshop on stakeholder input to and parameterization of, ecosystem and foodweb models in the Irish Sea aimed at a holistic approach to the management of the main fish stocks
WKIrish5 (5–9 November 2018): Workshop on an Ecosystem-based Approach to Fishery Management for the Irish Sea.
WKIrish6 (18–22 November 2019): Workshop on an Ecosystem-based Approach to Fishery Management for the Irish Sea. Finalising the WKIrish regional benchmark process.
The work will focus on resolving stock assessment issues for the following stocks:
Irish Sea sole will be incorporated in the development of mixed fisheries and integrated assessment and advice.
