Affiliation: SCICOM

The SCICOM Steering Group on Regional Sea Programmes (SSGRSP) facilitates and maintains the ICES expert groups that work on the regionalization of the ICES science plan. They regionalize ICES science and provide a local focus for advice.

SSGRSP is tasked to work in all "eco-regions" of ICES and in the western Atlantic. It develops methods for integrated ecosystem assessments (IEA) and provides the regional focus for others in the ICES network that want to apply the ecosystem approach. SSGRSP provides a focal point for the regional application of methods developed across the ICES network. It steers groups that are either regional (e.g. the Baltic Sea or North Sea) or groups that examine how regionalization can be applied (such as assessment of economics in the regions). It also steers the involvement of ICES in the Large Marine Ecosystem initiatives. The current main focus is to advance the use of Integrated Ecosystem Assessments to look at anthropogenic impact on our seas and oceans.
